We were saddened to hear of the the passing of our distinguished alumnus, Bertram Kostant. Kostant received his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1954, and spent most of his career at MIT. His important work in Lie theory and representation theory was highly regarded and he received many honors including membership in the National Academy of Sciences, and three honorary doctorates.
